Our Experience and Expertise

Here are details on Intranet / Extranet Projects and Achievements of the Digital Places team over the last few years:

Highly rated extranet service: led development, launch and operations of extranet service supporting 150 geographically distributed engineers & managers from NASA and major aviation companies. Achieved 80% regular usage across group and 95% strong or very strong rating for "service improved effectiveness of my work on this project. " Software: Linux, Apache, MySql, Java; Windows Server, Zope/Plone, Python.

Knowledge Management program: Developing a user-based, collaborative approach - to setting "governance rules, standards and practices" as an integral element of an intranet system for a federal government program. Users are a distributed workgroup of 200+ engineers, managers and contractors from multiple federal agencies and corporations. Also, aligning the group with Knowledge Sharing Network, an FAA Knowledge Management program which has achieved 50% penetration (of 40,000 FAA employees) without support of FAA IT management. Software: Microsoft Sharepoint, Lotus Notes, Lotus Domino applications, Webex.

IT and Knowledge Management requirements development: led a systems engineering approach to develop functional requirements for the KM needs of a NASA project supporting the nascent unmanned aviation UAV - industry. Included researching and developing tradeoffs among most major IT portal platforms: Websphere, WebLogic, Plumtree, Sharepoint as well as specialized applications e.g., Windchill, Groove, eRoom, etc.

Tools plus Process : Worked for a period with Dr. Douglas Engelbart , on several projects. More than anything else, my work with Dr. Engelbart taught me that in order to see significant organizational gains from information systems, there must be a hand-in-glove relationship between the information system tools and group standards for use of the tools.
